Digital Cartography offers powerful methods for visualizing the vibrancy and innovation of Black communities in Tulsa’s Historic Greenwood district, as well as the losses and violence that that those communities have experienced, including the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, Urban Renewal, and gentrification. In recent years, several different projects have employed distinct approaches to document processes of erasure and resilience in Greenwood. This page is a collaborative space where we identify these projects, actively work across the boundaries dividing them, and provide resources for others to continue to develop their own maps, artwork, and reflections. We invite you to explore the project pages, which are listed in the “projects” section above.
